Abstract

The aim of this research was the effectiveness of self-compassion training on the social anxiety of female students with symptoms of social anxiety. This research was semi-experimental with a pre-test-post-test design and a control group. The statistical population of the research included all the female students of the second secondary school in Marvdasht city in the academic year of 2019-2020. From this population, a sample of 32 people (16 people for each group) was selected in a purposeful way and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The self-compassion training course was conducted on the experimental group for eight weekly sessions for 2.5 hours, and no training was provided to the control group. The tools used in this research were the adolescent social anxiety questionnaire (SAS-A) and the researcher-made demographic information questionnaire, which was completed in three phases: pre-test, post-test and follow-up (three months). Data analysis was done using multivariate analysis of covariance in SPSS software (version 24). The results of this research showed that there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in the post-test (P≤0.01) and follow-up (P≤0.02) stages. Therefore, it can be concluded with 98% confidence that the effectiveness of self-compassion training is effective on the social anxiety of female students with symptoms of social anxiety.
