The relationship between goal orientation and self-efficacy beliefs with academic help-seeking behavior in students

Abstract

The main purpose of this research was to investigate the relationship between goal orientation and self-efficacy beliefs with academic help-seeking behavior in second year high school students of Khoy city. The research method of the present study is correlational. The statistical population of the research includes all male students of the second grade of high school in Khoy city in the academic year of11402-1403, whose number was 6236, for this purpose, 360 people were selected using the Morgan table and multi-stage cluster random sampling method. became In order to collect information, the goal orientation questionnaire of Middleton and Midgley. (1997), the academic help-seeking questionnaire of Ryan and Pentrich (1997) and the self-efficacy beliefs questionnaire of Scherer et al (1982) were used. Pearson correlation test was used to analyze the data. The results showed that the correlation coefficient between the component of goal orientation (mastery, performance and avoidance) with academic help-seeking behavior (avoidance of academic help-seeking) is equal to -0.36, -0.12 and 0.13 respectively at the level of 0.05 There is a significant relationship between the goal orientation component (mastery, functional and avoidance) and academic help-seeking behavior (acceptance of academic help-seeking) at the level of 0.35, 0.16, and -0.15 respectively. P < 0.05, there is a significant relationship. There is a significant correlation coefficient between self-efficacy belief and avoidance of academic help-seeking - 0.30 and acceptance of academic help-seeking 0.25 at the level of P < 0.05.
