Studying the relationship between academic self-regulation and student engagement in school in sixth grade school students in Shiraz

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between academic self-regulation and student engagement in school in sixth grade school students in Shiraz. This study was based on descriptive - Correlational method. The statistical population of the study consisted of sixth grade students in district 4 of Shiraz. A multistage cluster sampling method was used to select 232 boys (107) and girls (125) as sample. The research tools were academic self-regulation questionnaire (Connell & Ryan, 1987) and student engagement in school (Veiga, 2016). The collected data were analyzed by using One-Sample t-test, Pearson Correlation, and Multivariate Regression by used of Structural equation modeling (SEM). Findings showed that there is a significant and positive correlation between academic self-regulation and student engagement in school. Also, from the viewpoint of the sixth grade students in shiraz, their academic self-regulation in school is a positive and significant predictor of their engagement in school.
