The Necessity of Reflection in Peace Education Programs (With an intercultural approach)

Abstract

peace is and has been the permanent dream of mankind and up to now, many efforts have been made throughout history from peace seekers to control violence and develop peace, but these efforts have not ended up with a desirable outcome. Some scholars believe that the most effective and the only way to promote peace is the peace education; consequently, many studies and efforts have been made to teach peace in different countries. But peace education schemes also have little success. In this paper, which is done via the intellectual analysis, , the previous researches and efforts in the field of peace education are studied critically and pathologically; then the necessity of cultural and cross-cultural perspective towards peace are mentioned. At this stage, some important structures are discussed that can make a peace education program more effective. In this regard, the current paper discusses the importance of the facts such as extracurricular programs at schools, student-related context of school and teacher qualifications and skills. Also, the necessity of teaching philosophical thinking, critical thinking, training of open mined citizenship and education for the building of a democratic society are discussed .
