Explaining the components of an integrated approach in the elementary school social studies curriculum: A qualitative research

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate and identify the components of the integrated approach in the social studies curriculum and their impact on the quality of primary education. The research approach is qualitative and exploratory in nature using conventional content analysis. The population of the study was all primary school teachers in Khoy and Chaipareh counties in the academic year 1399-1400, which were selected by purposive sampling as an index type and the sample size continued until data saturation. In this regard, semi-organized interviews were conducted with 16 teachers. To ensure and validate the accuracy of the data, the method of researcher self-review and checking by participants (member control technique) was used. Findings of this research are 4 main themes: soft thematic disciplines, research-oriented, functionalization and production discourse, of which 13 sub-themes are shared content, learners' ability, local adaptation, situational learning, multifaceted education, meaning-making, action research, skill orientation. Includes thinking, participatory study, self-regulation of learning, synergy of knowledge, approach building.
