Abstract

Background and purpose: Autism spectrum disorders are very pervasive and affect all functional aspects of children. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of training perceptual motor activities on improving the strengthening of visual memory and executive functioning of students with autism spectrum disorder. Research method: The research method was a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population of the present study were all children with autism spectrum disorder in Mashhad. Using the purposeful sampling method, 30 children aged 7-12 years with average performance were selected from children with autism spectrum disorder and were randomly divided into two experimental (15 peoples) and control (15 peoples) groups. The groups were selected similar in terms of age and intelligence. Data collection tools included Connors' test(2004), and Kimkarad's visual memory test(1945). The experimental group participated in the training sessions of perceptual-motor activities for 12 sessions of 45 minutes. Data analysis was done by spss24 software and using descriptive statistics and covariance analysis(ANCOVA) methods.
findings: The results of the analysis of the research findings showed that the training of motor perceptual activities is effective in strengthening the executive function and visual memory of children with autism spectrum disorder.
Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it can be said that one of the useful educational approach to enhancing the executive function and visual memory of children has autism spectrum disorder, training of motor perceptual activities.
